Nd:YAG Laser

What Is an Nd:YAG Laser?

The Nd:YAG laser (short for Neodymium-doped Yttrium Aluminum Garnet) is a type of solid-state laser that emits light at a wavelength of 1064 nanometers (nm). This wavelength allows it to penetrate deep into the skin, making it highly effective for treating vascular lesions, unwanted hair, pigmentation issues, and skin rejuvenation, especially in darker skin types (Fitzpatrick IV–VI) due to its lower absorption by melanin.

💡 How Does It Work?

The Nd:YAG laser targets chromophores in the skin, such as hemoglobin in blood vessels or melanin in pigmented lesions and hair follicles. When the laser energy is absorbed, it generates heat that destroys the targeted tissue—whether it's a spider vein, hair follicle, or pigmented spot—without damaging the surrounding skin. It can also stimulate collagen production, leading to improved skin texture and tone over time.

🩺 Clinical Applications

In our clinic, the Nd:YAG laser is used for a wide range of treatments, including:

  • Spider veins and vascular lesions (face, legs)
  • Rosacea and facial redness
  • Laser hair removal (suitable for all skin types)
  • Skin tightening and rejuvenation
  • Onychomycosis (nail fungus)
  • Pigmented lesions (e.g. sun spots, freckles)
  • Acne and acne scars

For patients seeking gentle rejuvenation, the long-pulsed 1064 nm Nd:YAG setting stimulates collagen remodeling and skin firming with minimal discomfort and no downtime.

✅ Advantages of Nd:YAG Laser

  • Safe for all skin types, including darker tones
  • Deep tissue penetration for vascular and hair follicle targets
  • Non-invasive and virtually painless
  • No downtime in most cases
  • Versatile—can treat face, body, and scalp areas
